Latifa Hospital was the first specialized facility for Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Children in the nation in 1987. In 2012, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum named it Latifa Hospital for Women and Children, in memory of his late mother, Sheikha Latifa (May God bless her soul).
In October 2021, Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital became a specialized center for obstetrics and gynecology, with 253 beds, while pediatric medical, surgical, and emergency services moved to other locations.
